Italian banks are among the entities that have benefited most from the improvement in public finances. This strengthening has not translated into more favourable conditions for credit but on the contrary into a reduction in loans to companies. Today more than ever, banks should focus on their essential functions and cultivate their relationship with households, businesses and the territories they serve with greater care than at present. It is necessary for banks to be able to give and report the added value they offer by focusing on their function of protecting and enhancing savings and providing credit.
