Blockchain technology, with its characteristics of decentralization, transparency and immutability, has sparked growing interest as a potential solution to improve efficiency, traceability and security in Trade Finance and Supply Chain Finance. This study explores how Blockchain can redefine these areas, strengthening the role of banks rather than replacing it. Financial intermediaries can take on validation functions in permissioned networks, promote interoperable standards and offer new services through smart contracts and tokenization. The analysis also extends to the regulatory, operational and cultural challenges that influence it adoption. The conclusions offer suggestions and insights for future research on the role that Blockchain can play in Trade Finance and how banking intermediaries can respond to this change.
